"Brake" at the opening of the Deryneia roadblock is suggested by EDEK

EDEK, News, Cyprus, Nea Famagusta

Developments in the Cyprus issue have now been transferred from the negotiating table to the chessboard of the international and local community. The sides make their moves at the diplomatic level, while the Turkish side chose to promote unilateral actions in order to create new data.
EDEK calls on the President to take advantage of the 1979 Agreement which refers to the return of Famagusta under UN supervision and the UN Resolution 550 which speaks of the return of the city of Famagusta.

"As EDEK, we propose our side to set as a condition for any MOE the implementation of this decision for Famagusta and the implementation of the 3rd Vienna signed by Turkey for the trapped", states EDEK in its announcement.
At the same time, we propose the termination of the opening of roadblocks, which in essence will contribute to the fact that there is no solution. Specifically, the opening of the roadblock in Deryneia:
• the only ones it will serve are the occupation regime,
• will facilitate the movement of tourists from Ayia Napa and Protaras to Famagusta,
• will give the occupation regime the opportunity to develop the enclosed area.
EDEK calls on the United Nations to promote and demand, on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the Organization itself, the immediate return of the city of Famagusta to its legal inhabitants under the auspices and administration of the UN and the implementation of 3rd Vienna for the trapped.
At this juncture, just one day after the approval of the renewal of the mandate of UNFICYP by the UN, the parties and the political leaders are giving their own position in relation to how the e / k should move to counter the moves of the Turkish side, but also how the developments should be launched in the near future.

"Satisfaction of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the adoption of a resolution for UNFICYP"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes yesterday's adoption of the resolution renewing UNFICYP's mandate for six months by the United Nations Security Council.
"It is noted that the renewal is for six and not for four months as some people mistakenly came to criticize despite the efforts of the Turkish side for a three-month renewal only."
"It is important that the negotiation process does not collapse"

AKEL characterized as procedural the resolution on behalf of the UN for the renewal of the term of UNFICYP, while at the same time points out that the reference to a review should be considered, although this is a more general policy.
"At this moment, it is important for the President of the Republic to take initiatives, so that the process does not collapse. "The process needs to continue from where it left off in Crans Montana, taking advantage of the Gutierrez framework, which, among other things, speaks of the abolition of guarantees and invasive rights," said a statement from the left-wing party.
"Dangerous suggestions and provisions in the UNFICYP resolution"

The latest UNFICYP resolution, for the renewal of the mandate of the peacekeeping force in Cyprus, includes very dangerous suggestions and provisions, said the presidential candidate Nikolas Papadopoulos at a press conference.
Mr. Papadopoulos called on the President of the Republic to stop the meaningless, as he characterized them, controversies with the minutes and to focus on the essence of the Cyprus problem and the confrontation of the Turkish methods.
Noting that Turkish methods are already taking place at the United Nations, he also said that the President of the Republic has brought things to a tipping point and a head-on collision with the United Nations, at a time when the change of UNFICYP terms of reference is being discussed for the first time. , which carries many risks, taking into account the efforts of Turkey and some of its allies to upgrade the pseudo-state.
DIKO states in its announcement that "the term of UNFICYP was substantially renewed for 4 months instead of 6".
The occupation regime and Turkey have always sought to apply the method of direct negotiation between the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus and the pseudo-state, which refers to the upgrading of the pseudo-state and the downgrading of the Republic of Cyprus, the statement said.
This claim, unfortunately, can be met, due to the change in the structures and terms of mandate of UNFICYP. The government is obliged to take all appropriate actions, in order to prevent such an unpleasant development, closes the announcement of DIKO.
"Line and strategy on the issue of Turkish moves on Tuesday in the National Council"

"At the meeting of the National Council next Tuesday, a line and strategy on the issue of Turkish moves for Varosia and the Maronite villages should be defined," said the President of the Citizens' Alliance and Presidential candidate George Lillikas.
Mr. Lillikas stated that in order to prevent the Turkish methods we will need the help of friends of countries while he expressed his concern regarding the provision that exists in the resolution for UNFICYP for a strategic review of the Force.
Commenting on the Turkish moves for Varosia and the Maronite villages, the President of the Citizens' Alliance said that the right thing is for the National Council and the Government to determine its final position on these moves and then, based on this policy that we will formulate, ask for support and help from friendly countries…
"The President's anxiety to inform the EU and the UN is incomprehensible"

"The intervention to the UN on the issue of Famagusta is right, but unfortunately it is already undermined."
Solidarity states in a statement, adding: "What is very important is the insistence of President Anastasiadis to inform the EU and the UN at a time when both organizations were present in Crans Montana with high-ranking officials. Didn't he convince them in Switzerland and will he succeed now? "
"We reiterate that for us it does not matter if the President convinces us that Eide is a liar and the Turks deceived him. We warned him about this and in a very timely manner ", the announcement of the Movement emphasizes.
"It is important to inform the people about the disastrous proposals they submitted to Crans Montana, the acceptance of which by the Turkish side makes the new formation fully controlled by Ankara," the Solidarity statement concludes.
"Gathering of political forces around the red lines"

"We call for the mobilization of all political forces around our red lines in the Cyprus issue", says in her statements the Vice President II of the movement of Ecologists-Citizens' Cooperation, Efi Xanthou.
"The UN Security Council resolution providing for the six-month extension of UNFICYP's mandate clearly refutes those who threatened that the Republic of Cyprus would be isolated immediately after Crans Montana," he said.
"Despite the adoption of the logic of" equal distances "in the general position of the Security Council on the recent developments in the Cyprus issue, we consider the resolution positive," said among others Ms. Xanthou.
"On this, however, we can not but point out the very heavy responsibilities of the AKEL leadership which, despite our remarks, with its attitude throws water on the mill of Turkish propaganda. However, we can only condemn Mr. Akinci's attempt to he takes advantage of the statements of Greek Cypriot parties or politicians to support his own positions ", he states.
