Turkish Cypriot arrested for rape in Ayia Napa

A Turkish Cypriot was arrested in Ayia Napa and charged with abducting and raping a young Norwegian woman on August 2, 2012.

Based on scientific DNA evidence and the findings of medical examiner Nikolas Charalambous, it was found that the unfortunate tourist was raped at 4 in the morning of 2.8.2012, when she was abducted from her hotel and taken to the beach.

The Famagusta District Court in Paralimni on Tuesday referred the 30-year-old Turkish Cypriot to stand trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Cyprus at the Larnaca Courthouse.

He also ordered his detention to decide whether he would remain in custody at Central Prison until the date of his trial.
