Andreas Konstantinou, a great figure of the great team of ENP in the 70's and father of Michalis Konstantinou, passed away in the early morning hours. The sports department of our band expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family. Let the soil that will cover my friend Andreas be light.

Following is a recent tribute from the ENP fans' website.

"Today's tribute concerns one of the most dynamic forwards who ever wore the legendary crimson shirt that we gladly saw yesterday again on the field after a long time watching the Union easily beat Nikos & Socrates Erimis. Andreas has been suffering from a health problem for quite some time now, which we wholeheartedly hope will be temporary.

ANDREAS M. KONSTANTINOU (23/05/1949)
Position: Central Forward
International: Men's National Team
Career: GROUP A 1965-1979

Andreas Michael Konstantinou started his football career in the first official match that ENP played in the KOP championships. It was the 1965-66 season and the team was playing in the Division B championship under coach Koko Oikonomou. Before 1965 and specifically in his childhood, Andreas played with the Union team in the countryside.

During the 15 years of his presence in official matches, he established himself as a dynamic central striker, a friend of the opponents' nets, culminating in his call-up to the National Team. This was his first international match with the then Soviet Union in Moscow in the 1970-71 season, with the match ending 6-1 and our national team coach Wood. Andreas was essentially the first United player to be called up to the Cyprus National Team.

In addition to his international appearances, Andreas holds another important record. He is one of seven United players to score in an official international club-level match. It was September 16, 1975 and specifically in the replay of the first round of the UEFA Cup against MSV DUISBURG of then West Germany. Final result 3-2 for the West Germans with Andreas scoring in the 19th minute and temporarily equalizing at 1-1.

Andreas was present in the finals of 1974 and 1975 while he was a key member of the great Union of Plouskal and Kolokoudia in the 70's.

His last year was the period 1978-79 with initially coach Mirkas and later Theodoros Kolokoudias. "
