Those accused of the "Sun" plane tragedy are innocent

The Nicosia Criminal Court acquitted those accused of crashing a company plane "by a majority"Sun", at August 14, 2005 in Grammatiko, Attica, with 121 victims. The judge disagreed Nikolas Santis...

The Criminal Court ruled that the indictment for the executive chairman of the company Andrea Drakos, the company "Sun»As a legal entity, its managing director, Dimitris Pantazis, the Director of Flight Standards, George Kikkidis and the Bulgarian company chief pilot, Yanko Stoimenov"It is unsubstantiated, since there is no evidence to link them to the tragedy."

The defendants faced 1.190 charges of manslaughter and inciting death by negligence, and the much-maligned trial began in September 2009.

The decision is interim, in the sense that the Criminal Court considered that there is no prima facie case against the accused and will not call them to apology.

This means that in its final decision the court will acquit the accused and acquit them of the charges. Upon hearing the verdict, relatives of the victims got up from their seats and shouted "disgrace". Many burst into tears. The father of one of the victims of the tragedy shouted "tell us who killed our children".

The relatives of the victims are shouting.

The strong reaction of the Chairman of the Committee of Relatives of the Victims of the Air Tragedy, Nikolas Giasoumi caused by the court decision.

Mr. Yasoumi spoke of misconduct on the part of the Legal Service, while complaining that not a single investigation was carried out in the Civil Aviation Department for the Sun.

Ο Nikolas Giasoumi also referred to the report of the Research Committee under Panagiotis Kallis, in which things and miracles were heard, as he stressed, about what happened before the tragic accident.

We have repeatedly asked, he said, to be given the conclusion Good, so that our lawyers could study it for litigation purposes, but it was not given to us.

Mr. Yasoumi called on the President of the Republic to make public the conclusion Kalli and the Legal Service to proceed with an appeal, expressing this hope to be condemnatory.

The Legal Service is considering the possibility of an appeal.

The Attorney General, Petros Clerides stated that the Legal Service will study the decision of the Criminal Court and will consider whether any measures will be taken.

In a short statement, Mr. Clerides did not rule out the possibility of an appeal, after considering whether it would have a chance of success. Source: LIBERAL
