Measures against noise pollution from recreation centers for the protection of tourists and the thousands of visitors that flood the area of ​​free Famagusta every year, are promoted by the Municipality of Ayia Napa.

As the mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, stated in KYPE, “after a decision of the Municipal Council, the Municipality proceeded in the last months to prepare sound maps, after measurements, simulations and several analyzes. Each premises will receive in the coming weeks the limits of its sound and the technical details which will be the terms of its operating licenses ".

He explained that "every premises that emits sound must, before issuing its operating license, submit an acoustic study in which it will be analyzed how it will follow the limit given to it. At the same time, the installation of a volume cutter will be provided ".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Karousos said that "there will be relevant controls by the Municipality of Ayia Napa for compliance with these limits. The specific proposal is implemented on the basis of what was implemented by the Municipality of Limassol, which solved several problems in the center in relation to noise pollution ".

According to the Mayor, “tourism and the thousands of people who visit Ayia Napa every year must be protected. "There is a problem with noise pollution and until a proper legislative regulation is found and voted by the Parliament, we must find other solutions."

He also expressed the assessment that "the proposal to reduce noise pollution, which has the support of the Associations of leisure centers, will have positive results. The first step has been taken and now we are moving forward with the implementation of the proposal ".
