A rescue operation of 13 people aboard a boat was carried out off the river Liopetri by the Coast Guard and the competent Services of the Republic of Cyprus.
The Port Police was alerted around 7.30 pm, when the boat with 13 passengers was located - 4 men, 3 women and 6 children.
A rescue operation was immediately set up under the coordination of the Search and Rescue Coordination Center, which towed the boat ashore.
The passengers are estimated to be refugees, but it has not yet been determined whether they come from Syria.
They were provided with food, underwent medical examinations and have now been transferred to a hospital.
