The two philhellenic Italian mayors were moved by their behavior and actions, who offered their salary for the sake of Greece. The two mayors, Marco Galdi and Giovanni Moscatiello, visited Athens yesterday, as representatives of the National Association of Italian Municipalities, and were moved both by their words and their feelings for Greece.

They recited Cavafy, talked about Leonidas and the Spartans, described the new generation of Greeks as heroic.

They were particularly excited about Greek culture and history.

"Without the millennial Greek history, the wealth of knowledge and wisdom, Europe would not exist today," said Baronisi Mayor Giovanni Moscatiello, adding: "Today we have peoples with a credible democratic heritage and those who pursue management policies. "Unfortunately, we are increasingly seeing a Europe of currencies and money."

After reciting two verses from the poem of K. Cavafy "Waiting for the Barbarians" he said: "Today we are fighting for a Europe without barbarians, where one day our children will live… An answer that can bring total change. Transparency in the management of public finances, respect for equal taxation, priority for employment of young people and women. We must give more weight to the European Parliament… No Europe without Greece. "No European policy without development prospects," concluded Giovanni Moscatiello.

"We need thousands to follow the example of Leonidas and the Spartans," said Marco Galdi, mayor of Cava de Tireni, referring to the municipal initiative.

"In Greece you need heroes, but it is not us. "It is the new generations who are suffering, the young people who are not entering the labor market, they are all those who must grit their teeth for Greece to stand on its feet with dignity," said Marco Galdi, adding:

"Many thanks to the Greek people" and Solidarity Network

"The slogan" We are all Greeks "reaches me. It's a beautiful slogan. That morning as I was writing my salary letter, I realized that we need to put solidarity at the heart of the peoples of Europe. And if the Greeks think that they do not have brothers, they have many children. We are all children of Greece. Our effort meets the logic of the heart. But it also has a deeper, political meaning. Let's start with the people, with the municipalities, with the Church of the Municipality. "Only in this way will we be able to build a political Europe."

The two mayors will contribute the symbolic amount of 1880 euros for a year in principle, with the prospect of continuing until the end of their term. This money will be given to the Greek Red Cross and their management will be controlled. Today at noon they will sign a protocol with the ECA and will open an account where the money will be deposited.
