The strawberry on the emblem of the Municipality of Deryneia

As Mr. Karagiannis stated to KYPE ”the Municipal Council of Deryneia, as a sign of appreciation for the work performed by our strawberry growers, decided to add this fruit to the emblem of the Municipality. The new emblem will have the opportunity to be admired by our liaisons and not only, in the program of activities for the month of April that has been sent to all the houses ".

He added that "the emblem of the Municipality has been selected after a competition announced by the Deryneia Improvement Council in 1992 and depicted the sky, the sun, the sea, the barbed wire, the sheaves, the orange and the windmill. In 1994 Deryneia was upgraded to a Municipality and the emblem remained the same ".

He also mentioned that "the addition of the strawberry to the new emblem of the Municipality which can now be seen in all the publications of our Municipality and the general editing of the emblem was done by Deryniotissa graphic designer, Andria Ioannou".

Asked about the Strawberry Festival that is held every two years in Deryneia, Mr. Karagiannis said that this year the 25th Festival will take place on May 8 and the preparations have already begun and continue at an intensive pace.

He explained that "this Festival has now become an institution. Relevant committees have already been set up for the Festival, such as the Organizing Committee headed by the Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Municipality. In order to ensure the success of the Festival, three other sub-committees have been set up, namely, the committee for decoration - organization of space, promotion and artistic program and strawberry growers and spouses ".

He added that members of the last sub-committee are in addition to strawberry growers and members of their families "several Deryneians who want to help, since this year the Festival is dedicated to Volunteering".
