"A new day in arbitration is dawning," he said
Leontios Trattos emerged victorious with 189 votes against 179 of Giorgos Papoutsos, while the other candidate, Haris Glikis, had retired before the election process and supported Leontios Trattos.
After his election, with tears in his eyes, Leontios Trattos stated: “I gave an honest fight with dignity and I managed to achieve this victory not only of myself but of the Association. I believe that the Cypriot referee came out justified and victorious from this result. A new day is dawning for our arbitration. I want to contribute to the strengthening of the dignity of the Cypriot referee and I am sure that together with the new board of directors we will succeed ".
For his part, the outgoing president George Papoutsos congratulated the winner and left without making any statements.
The new Board of Directors of the Association
In the province of Limassol, the two who are elected without opponents are Aristides Christou and Stelios Nikitas, while from the province of Paphos the only candidate was Michalis Michael. In the province of Larnaca-Famagusta, Komodromos and Neophytou will be members of the Board and representatives of the provinces in the SDK.

Before the election process
In the presence of 400 people out of which 375 voted, the electoral assembly of the Cyprus Referees Association was held, while the chairman for the needs of the session was Vassos Stavrou and the chairman of the arbitration committee, Kostakis Konstantinou, the director of the School of Arbitration, Stavros many old and new referees and observers.
During the assembly, Haris Glikis withdrew his candidacy and supported the candidacy of Leontios Trattos, while before the election process, the two candidates spoke to the more than 200 people who were present.
George Papoutsos initially said: "I want to express my disappointment for what we have heard from Mr. Trattos. You know the quality of my character. I am submitting my candidacy, I have the experience and as an inactive member I can create ideal conditions for the referees as I have done for the last five years. My goal has always been unity and I am here to support what we have achieved ".
For his part, Leontios Trattos stressed, among other things: “After mature thought and reflection, I decided to submit my candidacy for the presidency of the referees' association. The most important reason is that many times I disagreed with decisions of the board. The way the Board of Directors operated did not work and needs serious improvement ".
"I undertake to propose a three-member bidding committee that will manage the association's finances, a complaints committee to which all referees will be able to freely express their grievances, to appoint a press representative of the association who will best promote the positions of the board, to I have meetings with all the referees and work with everyone. In the last few days and after I applied, my fellow referees informed me of a climate of terrorism against my own candidacy. That high-ranking KOP executives encouraged them against my candidacy in exchange for advancement and favor in their refereeing career ".
As for Haris Glikis, who finally supported Leontios Trattos, he stressed: “After a lot of thought and reflection, I decided, with the encouragement of many, to dare to be a candidate. I have been serving on the council for two years. You all remember the war against me and the impact on my career. Democracy demands the opposite view, although some did not want that. After the events of last week I decided to retire and support Leontios Trattos for change. Our views are common. To immediately stop the arrogant behaviors of the respective commanders ".
