In a statement, the Chamber states that the Ministry of Labor requires these hotels to employ all their staff, even if they are partially operational, due to the non-start of the tourist season.
According to EVEA, the attitude of the Ministry of Labor is incomprehensible, since we all seek to alleviate the problem of seasonality in the tourism sector.
Instead of the Ministry of Labor, according to EVEA, encouraging our hotels to operate earlier than the beginning of the tourist season, even with reduced staff, in order to reduce the number of unemployment, it pursues them with outdated legislation.
EBE Famagusta states that it has received complaints from its members that in the area of Famagusta operating hotel units were forced to close again, because the Ministry of Labor does not accept to employ part and not all their staff.
EVEA asks the Ministry of Labor to allow the hotel units to work with the staff they really need at the moment, in order to reduce unemployment on the one hand and to extend the tourist season in Cyprus on the other.
