At the same time, the Technical Team, which cooperates with the Community Council of Avgoros, is preparing a study on the defects, in order to submit the data before the Parliament, while they will be used for purposes of claiming compensation.
Responsibility in the Department of Water Development
Both the Mayor, Mr. Panagiotis Michailas, and the Technical Team of the Community, consider that to a large extent the problems are due to the lack of supervision of the Department of Water Development, which was responsible for monitoring the project. Mr. Michaelas stated that the problems were identified in 20 of the 29 kilometers of the network and added that the community demands that the defects be corrected in the appropriate way. "We do not accept to remove the materials only at a depth of 62 cm, as some suggested, since in some places the excavations were made close to the ground surface while in others they reach up to 4 meters, so such a solution will solve the problem only temporarily with result to appear in the future ", said the Common Leader.
The construction works in the community of Avgorou started on 9/12/2010 and concerned the construction of the central sewerage systems and the construction of the sewage collection networks. The sewerage network of Avgoros and Achna are part of the Sewerage Project of the Kokkinochorion Complex, which is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union. The Kokkinochorion Sewerage Pipelines (which will cover ten settlements) extend at a distance of 313 km and the total cost was estimated at 81 million euros.
