The need for Kindergartens and Primary Schools to reconsider the practice of visiting children in Imprisoned Memorials was reiterated by the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Lida Koursoumba.

The commissioner reacted to the claim of the philologist and candidate for Mayor of Lefkonikos, Zina Lysandrou, that she "prohibits" the visits of primary school children to the imprisoned memorials in view of the "New Order of Things" (obviously meaning the process of resolving the Cyprus issue). in 2012.

In her position, the Commissioner considers that Kindergartens and Primary Schools should reconsider the practice of visiting children in Prison Memorials. Also, as far as the children of the Gymnasium and Lyceum are concerned, these visits could be made, after a dialogue with them, as should be done in any other case of educational and / or recreational visit.

The Commissioner expressed the view that "under the circumstances, the visit of infants and primary school children to the area of imprisoned memorials and gallows is neither a necessary nor a necessary condition for the school to achieve its goal of cultivating respect for national values. , our history and tradition ".
