The PM and MM * era

SlouchWritten by journalist Marios Adamou

Dear readers, she is happy. Through the permanent column "A-RIGHT" I hope to regularly have the opportunity to comment on current events. Everything that has to do with our Municipality, our region and Cyprus. So let's start:

Today marks six months since the summer of Armageddon that hit our country. I unfortunately had the misfortune to experience from the front line the disaster in Marie and all the consequent tragic consequences of the deadly explosion…

Exactly six months later and my mind goes back to that sound of the message that rang on my phone in the early hours of Monday, July 11, 2011. It was six and five in the morning and the message read "Explosion in Libra. Power outage. Ambulances and fire brigades from EMAK go to the area ". I try to get out of bed. I think there will be no bombs in any car, no arson and I decide to wait a little longer. Before I even finish my thought a second message reads "explosion at the naval base in Marie. There may be injured. "

The mind begins to activate. I leave the house in a hurry and try to find out what is happening. Phone calls on top of each other. On the way the information is confused. The police only tell us that this is an explosion at the Navy Base with wounded. Shortly afterwards, the first unconfirmed information speaks of the existence of the dead. An hour after the explosion in Libra, we see scenes of insanity. People on the streets, bloodthirsty drivers asking for help, broken glasses everywhere, broken cars, images of biblical destruction. Ambulances and fire brigades come and go demonized.

In Marie on a hill near the power station Vasilikos, when the fog dissipates the spectacle is incredible. The station building has been demolished. We approach the station from a field, we fly over the railing and we are in front of the gate. The special police officer, who was on duty at the time of the explosion, is desperately asking for information about the fate of his colleague, who had climbed the hill above the Base. The station literally dismantled had not been left stone upon stone. The view on the hill opposite, inside the macabre base. Scattered white sheets hide the lifeless bodies of the victims…

Today, exactly six months later, most of us have left behind or want to leave behind those tragic moments. There were celebrations, family gatherings, tables, etc. that make forgetting easy. But the pre-Marie period will never be the same as the post-Marie period. Relatives in black will remind us. The ghosts of the morning of July 11 will haunt some forever. The place, no matter how much we want to not believe it, no matter how many gases we discover will never be the same. In our corrupt society some people declare that slowly but steadily it will change. But on the other hand we are a people and a society that by nature are difficult to revolt and easily comfortable. But now something seems to be moving and changing. The question that remains is what form the reaction will take, how the system will manage it and how (this is for sure) it will try to assimilate it and mitigate it. Finally it remains to be seen how different it will be and whether the change will be for the better. After all, it is up to us to achieve the best. Because as Lennon sang "YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION. LET'S START IMMEDIATELY. SO GET UP STANDING AND GO TO THE STREETS ".

PS: The Minister of Finance during the holidays made the table for journalists in Zygi. He chose the specific area because it is close to the three big cities and it is unfair that all the events he mentioned took place in the capital. Finally, he added that there is no one who does not know Libra. And we say, my minister, do not be so sure. At least we know someone who admitted that he does not know the specific area and who happens to be your political boss.
