Cyprus police give five tips to avoid stealing personal belongings on the streets or in crowded places

a 928 Police

Many times, on the streets or secluded places, the perpetrators approach their potential victims through motor vehicles or follow them while they are in shops, or in crowded places, waiting for the right opportunity to act.

Thus, the police advise every citizen to take care of the safe storage of his personal belongings, taking the following measures:

1. When walking on busy streets / public places, have your money, credit cards and cell phones in the front pockets of your clothes. It is also recommended for men to have their wallets in the front pockets of their pants.

2. Women when carrying bags: do not carry all your money, credit cards, passports, etc. within them, unless absolutely necessary. The women's bag is a target for the savvy.

3. It is preferable for the bag to be positioned in such a way that there is constant visual contact with it (eg a cross), so that it becomes difficult for someone to pull or open it.

4. In cases where you visit shopping malls and stores, be very careful when entering the testing rooms and do not leave your personal items exposed in any case.

5. Finally, where there is overcrowding but also in dark and secluded places, be especially careful, because the conditions are created for a victim of theft to fall easily and it is better to avoid them, especially in the evening.

In general, all citizens are encouraged to be vigilant and to work closely with the Police. If you suspect anything suspicious, make a complaint immediately, informing the nearest Police Station or contact the Citizen Contact Line at 1460 immediately.
