The government's development projects over the next two years were presented by the Minister of Transport

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Marios Dimitriadis presented the government development projects for the next two years and the comparative advantages of Cyprus as an investment destination at a Business Conference organized by the CCCI in Beijing, with the participation of Cypriots and Chinese businessmen.

In his presentation, Mr. Demitriadis said, among other things, that Cyprus has a flexible economy that is recovering rapidly, noting the successful methods of the Government to this end.

"We have started a very ambitious privatization program that includes the telecommunications sector, the Electricity Authority, state-owned real estate, licensing for the state lottery, ports, the stock market, and all of these present many investment opportunities," he said. Mr. Dimitriadis.

Referring to CYTA, he said that "we hope to invite a strategic investor in 2016, adding that there are opportunities in terms of plots of land in a privileged position for business purposes."

"As a Government we are committed and we have started an ambitious program for the ports and marinas", said the Minister, making special reference to the commercialization of the port of Limassol.

He added that we have entered the second phase of the privatization of the port and the process is expected to be completed by the end of next March. "This process opens up great prospects for the private sector," he said.

He also referred to the marinas of Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Paralimni, noting that the Government aims to enrich the tourist product and noted that there are many opportunities to increase the tourist flow between Cyprus and China.

The Minister of Transport also referred to the services sector, the project related to the creation of a casino resort, but also to the Energy sector.

As he said, the discovery of hydrocarbons in general in the Eastern Mediterranean region further strengthens the position of Cyprus in the region.
