The lifeguards' schedule has been extended to the beaches of Agia Napa

The lifeguards' schedule was extended from yesterday, Thursday, July 23, by one hour to all the organized beaches of Ayia Napa. So until the last day of August the lifeguards on the 10 beaches of Ayia Napa will be in their posts from 10 in the morning until seven in the evening.

According to statements by Dimitris Pateras, inspector of Ayia Napa beaches, "the Mayor and the Municipal Council have decided since yesterday, Thursday, to extend the life of lifeguards by one hour daily, with the aim of better serving bathers on all organized beaches. That is, the lifeguards will be in their towers from 10 in the morning until 7 in the afternoon instead of until 6 that was valid until now, while the new schedule will be valid until August 31, 2015 ". He explained that the rationale behind this decision is the fact that "from 6 pm when the lifeguards' schedule ended, there was a lot of people on the beaches. The Mayor and the Municipal Council took this decision in order to ensure that the bathers would have the necessary supervision to avoid any unpleasant events ". Answering a relevant question, Mr. Pateras said that" lifeguards supervise the beaches for the safety of bathers , while they also carry out some kind of policing, that is, if they notice that anything illegal is happening on the beaches then they will notify the Municipality of Ayia Napa and even the Police ". provision of first aid. Among the lifeguards there are instructors who have received the training diploma and every 2-3 months, they do practical training on the beach but also theoretical courses since there is a continuous upgrade in the First Aid systems ". Mr. Pateras also noted that" we are always in consultation and cooperation with the Cyprus Lifeguard Federation for the attendance of seminars related to the specific profession. Also, the Municipality of Ayia Napa is rapidly buying or supplying any new equipment that goes on the market to provide First Aid for bathers. " We have life-saving skis, an inflatable lifeboat, while as a Service we attach great importance to prevention and we are on foot to avoid any unpleasant events ". He also said that in the form of loss of human life. "Every day we face various incidents and we feel proud of both the lifeguard unit and the lifeguards of the Municipality of Ayia Napa," concluded Dimitris Pateras.Source: KYPE
