New research reveals the benefits of coffee

Caffeine has traditionally been considered an unhealthy substance. However, new research reveals that coffee consumption may enhance longevity…

The study was conducted among 400.000 people, between the ages of 50 and 71, and concluded that the higher the consumption of coffee, the lower the chances of death from various diseases.

These include heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke, diabetes, infections, but not cancer.

The US study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, was conducted by the National Cancer and Health Institute. Researchers have found that coffee is not the main cause of reduced risk of death, but some of its ingredients are associated with individual benefits.

Participants were categorized according to the amount of coffee they drank on a daily basis, namely those who drank six or more cups a day and those who did not drink at all.

Those who drank more coffee were less likely to die from various diseases. According to researchers, the antioxidants and magnesium contained in coffee are constituent health benefits, not caffeine.

"This important research provides evidence that moderate consumption of coffee, 4-5 cups a day, is safe and is associated with various health benefits," said the executive director of the British Coffee Association.
