For the comparative evaluation of the supermarkets at the provincial level, the Consumer Protection Service has selected from the Observatory of basic consumer products, the common products. Common products are those that are sold at the same time in the large supermarkets monitored by the Consumer Protection Service by province.

From the database with the prices of the common products on 07.02.2017, the following summary graphs emerge, which include:
• The total of common products sold in the supermarkets by province
• The total cost of common products per supermarket (based on which supermarkets are ranked from the cheapest to the most expensive)
• The corresponding Supermarket Price Index (where supermarkets are ranked as a percentage from the cheapest to the most expensive)
• The number of the cheapest common products available in each supermarket by province

Note:
Common Price Observatory products may differ between provinces as well as Common Conservatory products of previous dates. Therefore, any comparison of the total cost of the common products of a Price Observatory with previous or even between provinces, should be avoided.

In order to properly evaluate the information, consumers must take into account both the Price Index and the number of products and categories that are cheaper in each supermarket. The above comparison is a useful information tool for the consumer, strengthening his ability to compare prices and make the most profitable markets for him.

It is emphasized that the prices presented in each publication of the Price Observatory refer to the prices on the specific dates on which the checks for the receipt of prices have been carried out.
