After the meeting, AKEL MP from Famagusta, Christakis Tziovannis, stated that “unfortunately, while the restoration of the garbage dump has been completed and has been delivered since November 2015, a new garbage dump appeared next to it which is used and normal burning of garbage with everything the consequences for the health of the residents and the pollution ”.

He added that "this is an issue that has not been rectified and I would say that if the state, the Ministry of the Interior, does not approve such measures, unfortunately a co-financed project worth more than eight million euros is in danger of being destroyed."

Mr. Tziovannis said that “the two green points that were indicated and were ready to be constructed in the area of Paralimni have not been done for some reason with the consequence that the whole free area of Famagusta today does not have a green point and we understand the consequences of this problem. ”.

He also said that "there are communities and municipalities that have repeatedly asked the Ministry of Interior for two years to create green spots, they have indicated the place to get a green spot, but unfortunately for some reason the issue is not moving forward today."

"The Ministry of Interior tells us that the order and sovereignty will now be given to the Ministry of Agriculture and then what will be done will be done. We are waiting ", said the AKEL MP.

Concluding, he referred to the fact that in the garbage dump that now operates in the free Famagusta, garbage is thrown “arbitrarily, unfortunately, both by municipalities and by individuals, there is no control, while there should be policing and everything related to protect the premises and we see what we see ".

The President and Member of Parliament of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation, George Perdikis, on the same subject, stated that of the area".

Mr. Perdikis said that "unfortunately the competent authorities allow uncontrolled burning of garbage and it is really an oxymoron and only in Cyprus does this happen. The Municipality of Deryneia and the community of Avgorou desperately ask for green spots to collect large useless items. at the same time that there are six brand new spaces in the wider area of Larnaca - Famagusta that do not operate ".

He added that the contractor had "constructed these six spaces for them, handed them over to the Government and the Government calls on the Waste Management Organization, which consists of communities and municipalities and does not receive these facilities".
