58% of women aged 15 and over belong to the workforce, daily or almost daily 67% of women aged 16-74 use the internet while only 3% of adult women in Cyprus have been convicted.

These and a number of other statistics are included in an emergency press release on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8 by the Statistical Service.

In relation to demographics, according to the data, 435.600 women live in Cyprus, constituting the majority in the total population with a percentage of 51%.

Most women are aged 25-29 (35.800).

At the same time, the female population in Cyprus is aging.

The increase in women's life expectancy in recent years is widening the gender gap in the elderly population, with women accounting for 54% of the population aged 65+.

However, the life expectancy of women at birth is 83,5 years compared to 79,8 years for men.

When he gets married for the first time he has an average age of 29,3 years. She is expected to give birth to 1,32 children (total fertility rate) and at the birth of her first child she has an average age of 29,1 years.

In relation to education, 38% of women aged 25 and over have completed higher education and 32% are high school graduates.

At the same time, 58% of women aged 15 and over belong to the workforce. Women make up 48% of the total workforce in Cyprus.

One in two women works (50% of women aged 15 and over) and of those who work, 85% are full-time and 15% are part-time.

8% of women aged 15 and over are unemployed. 46% are unemployed for less than 6 months, 16% are for 6 to 11 months and 38% are unemployed for 12 months or more.

Nine out of ten working women (90%) are employees. Of these, 78% have a permanent job and 22% have a temporary job.

According to the Statistical Service, the most popular profession among women is employment in services or sales by 24%.

The female employee in Cyprus has a monthly salary of around € 1.600. The pay gap between women and men is 14% (for 2015).

Nearly three in ten women are at risk of poverty or social exclusion. More than one in six women (17%) have an income below the relative poverty line, about one in ten (11%) live in a household with a very low labor-intensive rate and 15% suffer from severe material deprivation.

67% of women aged 16-74 use the internet daily or almost daily. The most popular activities on the internet are searching for information about products or services with 62%, participating in social networks (61%) and watching videos from shared services (58%).

The woman in Cyprus uses a smart mobile phone at a rate of 71% and accounts for 48% of the trips of the inhabitants of Cyprus abroad.

In terms of delinquent behavior, 5% of adult women were brought to trial and 3% were convicted by the courts.

According to the data of the Statistical Service, the vast majority of convicts concerned traffic offenses and minor offenses, while for 97% of convicts the penalty imposed was the fine.

Women's involvement in serious crime is limited, with only 0,06% of adult women involved in serious crimes.
