The plans for the reconstruction and configuration of the coastal front of Sotiras have begun.

A press release from the Municipality of Sotira states that "last Friday, October 6, a meeting was held at the Municipal Theater of Sotira in the presence of the scholars of the project of renovation and configuration of the coastal front of Sotira and the competent government departments."

It is added that the meeting presented the preliminary study by the company "George Karas and Associates" which provides for the radical regeneration of the coastal front of three kilometers in the area of ​​Agia Thekla in Sotira. The plans include a pedestrian-bicycle path, green spaces, rest areas, squares, parks accessible to people with disabilities, an outdoor training area, a skateboarding track, parking lots, gardens, suggested tourist attractions and suggestions.

It is also included "a bridge connecting the beach of Agia Thekla with the island, while an important element in the design are the proposals for the protection of bathers by creating breakwaters. The plans suggest the creation of a dock for sailboats as well as the creation of a restaurant by the sea.

As the Mayor of Sotira, Georgios Takkas, stated, "the whole project aims to highlight the coastal area of ​​Sotira, where lately there has been intense interest from investors to create hotel units, but also to take advantage of the grandiose neighborhood project of 220 million euros of Agia Marina. Go".

He also stated that "the project will be interconnected with the project under study of the redevelopment of the Liopetri River, while the Municipality of Sotira will focus on claiming funds from national or European resources. Finally, he said that efforts will be made to complete the planning as soon as possible in order for the Municipality to anticipate the new investments that may be proposed, so that the new developments are carried out based on studied plans ".

The meeting was attended by "officials of the Department of Antiquities, the Marine Research Branch of the Department of Public Works, the Department of Environment, the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and the Hunting and Fauna Service, who expressed their positive views especially on the creation of pedestrians. but also on the issue of the protection of bathers ".

It is noted that "the project of regeneration and shaping of the coastal front Sotiras was announced by the Municipality of Sotiras in April 2016 and the first phase which will include the construction of a pedestrian-bicycle path is expected to be completed in July 2018, while the Government, through its President Democracy, expressed its positive view regarding the inclusion in the state budgets of an estimated expenditure of 5 million euros ".
