The art of Cyprus is poorer. At the age of 65, the well-known Cypriot painter George Erotokritos was betrayed by his Heart.

Zografos was 65 years old and was born in Lambousa in 1948.

He studied in Athens and London and after working abroad in 1980 he returned to Cyprus and settled in Limassol.

He presented his works in dozens of solo exhibitions and often participated in group exhibitions of painters abroad. In 1996, the well-known Fabergé House selected him - as the first artist in his workshop - to create a series of famous eggs.

The Ministry of Education and Culture expresses its sorrow over the untimely death of the painter George Erotokritos.

According to an official announcement, Erotokritos was born in Lambousa in 1948 and studied in Athens and London.

At the end of his studies he returned to Athens to work, attending, at the same time, courses in maintenance and wood carving.

Since 1980, he has lived in Limassol, while maintaining an enviable international presence, culminating in his collaboration with Fabergé in 1996.

He has exhibited his work in many solo and group exhibitions, both in Cyprus and abroad (Netherlands, France, USA, Greece, Belgium), and was the first artist to present his work at Cypriot airports.

George Erotokritos managed to delimit his own personal and distinct stigma in the modern Cypriot art scene by developing a completely special morphological vocabulary, where mythical beings of the popular tradition coexist harmoniously with characteristic types of Byzantine iconography.

The Ministry of Education and Culture expresses its heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the deceased creator, while a wreath will be laid at the funeral by the Minister of Education and Culture Kyriakos Kenevezos.
