"I am not a threat to society": 20 years in prison for a teacher who had sex with a minor student

Brittany Zamora, a former Arizona schoolteacher, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday for admitting to having sex with a 13-year-old student.

With tears in her eyes, Zamora heard the court's decision. She had been with her underage student four times in her car, while it was revealed that she was sending him love messages and nude photos of her. She was married and her husband was in court, who supported her throughout the trial.

"I lived my life with respect and tried to obey every law. I am not a threat to society for any reason ", were the words of the 28-year-old in the courtroom.

After apologizing to the minor's family, he told the judge that he intended to earn a new grade in prison so he could start a new life when he was released.

Under the terms of her sentence, she cannot be released for good behavior. This means that when Zamora serves her sentence, she will be 48 or 49 years old.

He was teaching in the sixth grade of the Las Brissas school and was arrested in March 2018. He was accused of sexually abusing a minor, while another student was watching them. The child was noticed by the child's parents, because they saw their son behaving strangely, while they installed the Sentry Parental Control application on his mobile phone, which detects messages with suspicious content. It was then that their son admitted what really happened.

"Our son was an innocent child and Brittany Zamora stole his innocence. "We hate her for what she did to our family," was the parents' statement, asking the court to impose the maximum sentence.

"Brittany is an adult. "He is the best person I have ever met," he said. It is not clear whether they are still together or not.

Zamora and her husband, known since the age of 16, got married in 2015. They have no children.
