The Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, sent a letter to the Minister of Interior, Nikos Nouris, on the issue of housing plans and allowances to support rural areas and revitalize mountainous, remote and disadvantaged areas.

In his letter, the Mayor also referred to a meeting held with the Minister last week in Deryneia, calling on Nikos Nouris "to include in this Plan applications submitted with submitted purchase and sale documents from 1/1/2021 until 28/2 / 2021 ».

Mr. Karagiannis also calls on the Minister of Interior to study "the issue of mortgages and transfers and to make corrective changes or clarifications, since" as he explains "those interested who had the opportunity to be transferred a property / house for renovation and housing, can not to benefit from the Housing Plan, because it is considered that they already own a first home ".

Unfortunately, the Mayor of Deryneia continues in his letter: "Many applicants for a mortgage loan are rejected because they do not have the full amount to buy the property. "Because of the pandemic, many young couples did not have any income as evidence for the banks, as a result of which they turned to their relatives for loans, which causes anger, frustration and misunderstandings." He invites Mr. Nouris to study "possible facilities of the applicants, regarding the financial requirements and the evidence required for the submission of the relevant loan application".

Regarding the issue of the publication of the Local Plan of Deryneia-Paralimni-Ayia Napa, Andros Karagiannis states that "several couples are waiting for the publication of the Local Plan for submitting an application and utilization of the Housing Plan for Critical Areas. A possible delay in its publication, may limit the submission of applications due to limited time and completion of the project end of 2021 ".

In the letter, the Mayor also refers to the issue of the expansion of the housing plan and calls on the Minister to "promote its expansion, taking into account the loss of two months January and February 2021 and the delay in the publication of the Local Plan of Deryneia-Paralimni" ».

Regarding the issue of the Strovilia area, Mr. Karagiannis reminds that "this Housing Plan cannot apply to the Strovilia - Deryneia area, which is located within the British Base of Dhekelia. In the area of Strovilia, no urban zones are valid and for this reason, as a Local Authority, we propose another plan, which concerns the renovation and improvement of the existing abandoned houses in order to attract new inhabitants ". He adds that "the issue is being studied by the Famagusta District Administration".

Another issue raised by the Mayor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is that of the Cyprus Land Development Organization and refers to a recent meeting he had with the President of K.O.A.G. in which, as he said, "we submitted the views of the Municipality for the construction of housing units on state land next to the Dead Zone. We also propose the cooperation between K.O.A.G. and the Welfare Office for housing in the residences of the Organization of persons from vulnerable groups of the population ".

Finally, the Mayor of Deryneia expresses in his letter to the Minister of Interior the hope that Mr. Nouris will proceed "with the improvement of the Housing Plan for its further utilization, especially from the poorest strata of civil society and that it will contribute to its upgrade and expansion." ».
