The estimate that the deadly fire, which has an official report of 82 dead, started from a cut cable in the PPC network, in the area of Daou Pentelis, was expressed by the mayor of Pentelis, Dimitris Stergiou.
Mr. Stergiou lives in the specific area and was at the spot where the deadly fire started, a few minutes after its outbreak. As he said, he saw the cut cable from the outdated network of PPC in the area, he estimates that the fire that "exploded like an atomic bomb" started from it and he even reported it to the Fire Department.
"It simply came to our notice then. The Investigative Department of the Fire Brigade came after me ". Mr. Stergiou pointed out that the assessment that the fire would go to Dionysus was wrong, since the direction of the wind showed, as he said, the course that the front finally followed, to the southwest. "There was a slight halt in the slightly wooded part of the Monastery, but when the fire spread to the wooded part of Voutza, it was impossible to control."
Mr. Stergiou said that the municipalities are obliged to have an evacuation plan, and it is their job to decide and request the evacuation of their areas. "I do not know why it did not happen," he said.
