A 21-year-old Mexican singer was allegedly shot by her 79-year-old husband while in a restaurant.
Yrma Lydya was murdered by Jesus Hernandez last Thursday in a private room at a Japanese restaurant in Mexico, police say. The couple was in a restaurant, they got into a fight and he killed her
The couple got into an argument and Hernandez shot his young wife three times in the chest, according to reports.
It is also alleged that he and his bodyguard, Benjamin Hernandez, then tried to leave the scene in a luxury car before being trapped by police.
Hernandez then tried to bribe officers to let him go, according to reports.
He had been trying to divorce her for months because he was abusing her
Lydya was brutally murdered after she contacted a law firm in April about starting a divorce process.
She showed photos of her bruised face from a series of incidents of domestic violence as evidence, according to the Mexican newspaper Excelsior.
Lydya had also reported to the police in December, claiming that her husband had beaten her. He had also threatened her with a gun on another occasion.
Mexico City Chief of Security Omar Garcia Harfuch said Hernandez met with two people at the restaurant at 14pm last Thursday, before leaving around 00pm, according to the Milenio news network.
Lydya later arrived at the restaurant and shots were reportedly heard after she and her husband started arguing.
Hernandez and his bodyguard are in custody
Hernandez and his bodyguard appeared in court on Sunday and are now in custody as police continue their investigation.
The lawyer, for his part, pleaded not guilty, insisting he did not kill Lydya, who was due to perform at a concert in California on Saturday. Hernandez will return to court on Thursday after his request to be placed under house arrest due to age was rejected by the judge.
