Ambassadors of 9 countries recite poems to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution

Philhellenic poems are recited by the ambassadors of 9 countries to honor the World Poetry Day and the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek revolution, which is completed on March 25. At the invitation of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the ambassadors of France, the USA, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Romania recited philhellenic poems, in a video that was posted on Mrs. Sakellaropoulou's Facebook account.

The President of the Republic states in her post: "Poetry is a constant effort to touch what transcends you," wrote Odysseas Elytis. Poets are always looking for transformational intervention in reality. They are always looking for something that refers to a higher purpose, a higher form of life. That is why the Greek Revolution against the Turkish dynasty inspired the poets of the West with lyrics that were so ecstatic, so moved. In the revolt of the Greeks against the power of a state empire they saw the transcendence: transcending fear, subjugation, slavery, even the limits of existence per se, since from one moment to the next ordinary, everyday people transform into heroes who give everything for the militant realization of the ideal of freedom.

The ambassadors of France, the USA, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Romania who are reading today, World Poetry Day, philhellenic poems commemorating the 200th anniversary of Greek polygenesis, confirm the bond that the rebellious Greece forged with the peoples of the West and their poets. A bond that made him inseparable on the one hand the admiration of the West for ancient Greece, for its political and state ideals, for its culture and heritage, and on the other hand the respect for the modern Greeks who dared to reclaim them and to restore them to the place where they were born. The Presidency of the Republic warmly thanks the ambassadors who responded so warmly to its invitation, the general information department of ERT who undertook to record their wonderful readings, Maria Andreadelli who directed and Athena Varsou who directed the production ".

It is recalled that at the invitation of the Greek government is expected to be in Athens on Wednesday the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles with his wife Camilla, the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Misoustin, as well as the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis , while historic buildings around the world are dressed daily in blue and white.
