The European Parliament decided to lift the immunity of MEP Alexis Georgoulis for the case of serious abuse against Eleni Chronopoulou at noon on Tuesday.

19 MEPs voted in favor of lifting the immunity of Alexis Georgoulis, while there was no vote against the lifting of immunity and no abstentions.

As stated in the relevant announcement, "the European Parliament received a letter dated March 30, 2023 with the request of the Belgian prosecutor's office to lift the immunity of Alexis Georgoulis. The request was submitted in the context of a complaint made on June 24, 2021 against Alexis Georgoulis for rape and abuse, crimes allegedly committed in January 2020."

"Alexis Georgoulis denied his right to be heard by the JURI committee and conveyed his desire to have his immunity lifted as soon as possible in order to continue the judicial investigation," the statement added.
