Arta: The baby was left without oxygen and exposed to the sun for hours

To the University Hospital of Ioannina, the body of the 5,5-month-old infant from Arta, who had cooled down, forgotten for hours in the car, is being transported. The autopsy will be conducted there, which will show the exact cause of the baby's death as well as the time of the fatal accident.

The child's 37-year-old father, who was charged with manslaughter, allegedly picked up the little girl around 7 a.m. Tuesday to take her to daycare. For some unknown reason he did not. He parked his car and went to Lefkada in an official vehicle.

Shortly after 14.30:27 p.m. his XNUMX-year-old wife contacted him to find out why the child was not at the nursery where she had gone to pick him up and he then realized he had left it locked in the car. By the time he reached Arta it was late. He found the unfortunate little girl strapped to her highchair, unconscious and foaming at the mouth. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors tried to revive him to no avail.

"The couple brought the child to the Arta hospital around 2:55 a.m.," the commander of the 24th Ministry of Health, Giannis Karvelis, told Action6, adding that the doctors made a tremendous effort, however, the "little girl was already dead." According to him, upon hearing of the death of their baby, the parents collapsed and shocking moments unfolded at the hospital.

Both had suicidal tendencies, according to Mr. Karvelis, but the matter was dealt with with the help of psychiatrists and psychologists. They are now being treated in separate wards, with the father being guarded in a special hospital ward.

Mr. Karvelis avoided saying how many hours the child had been dead before arriving at the hospital. "It is too risky to say anything," he said, referring to the autopsy and estimating that within the day there may be some evidence. As the child said, he was in the car seat for several hours, and the "father was not able to say many things".

As doctors reported, speaking to Sky, the 5,5-month-old infant died after being deprived of oxygen and exposed to the sun. The temperature inside a parked vehicle that is "seen" by the sun is much higher, and the hours too long for anyone to stay, let alone a five and a half month old infant.

The car had tinted windows so no one saw the baby

According to the president of POEDIN, Michalis Giannakos, the car in which the father had forgotten the infant "was in a place where citizens pass by, but it had tinted windows and no one saw it".

"The child arrived at three to five at the hospital with his parents, who took him dead to the emergency room. Because it's shift change time, all the attending doctors and nurses stayed behind and pounced on the child. They went above and beyond protocol. Unfortunately, they were not lucky. There is great sadness among the hospital staff over this tragedy," he added, speaking to Open. At the same time, he denied what was heard about the father's suicide attempt.

The investigator is at the hospital for the father's statement

According to Artinos.gr, the 37-year-old was expected to go to the regular investigator today, Wednesday, in order to apologize for his act. However, because he is given sedatives, due to his bad psychological state, he will go to the hospital, the investigator together with a psychologist for his apology. If he is unable to testify the investigator will leave.

The father is under guard in a room in the pulmonary ward of the hospital and the only people he has contact with are his parents.

At the same time the tragic mother continues to be in a state of shock, she is constantly asking for her baby and the doctors give her the appropriate medication in order to keep her calm.
