The cruise ship passenger, who is being quarantined at "Attikon" Hospital as a precaution, has tested negative for the coronavirus, as Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis told ERTnews.
"He is negative for the coronavirus. He is in very good health," said Mr. Georgiadis. In fact, he explained that the decision for a 45-day quarantine in the hospital was taken within the framework of the stricter implementation of the prescribed protocols, aiming for maximum safety in view of the tourist season.
The minister thanked the Greek passenger because, as he noted, "this man is suffering a great deal of suffering and he is suffering it for all of us. Because the reason we decided to follow the strictest version of the protocol and have him stay in quarantine in the hospital for 45 days, while he could have been quarantined at home, is because we told him that Greece is a tourist country. We have no way of monitoring his home. If one in a billion we had a case of Hantavirus in Greece, at the start of the tourist season, it would be a factor of great damage for thousands of businesses, employees and for the country. And so that we all feel safer, we asked him to follow this protocol and he accepted immediately, he did not raise any objections."
Also, Mr. Georgiadis stressed that all measures have been taken and there is no need to worry. Hantavirus is not covid. "I read on the internet about new quarantines and mandatory masks. None of this is true, no such plan exists, let's not exaggerate," he concluded.
