Dimitris Lignadis trial: Today the court's decision

After a trial that lasted five months, with thirty sessions of the court, today, unexpectedly, the court verdict is expected to be issued for the well-known director and actor Dimitris Lignadis, who has been accused of raping young people.

The court conference is expected to begin on Wednesday morning and a guilty verdict is expected to be handed down at a later date.

The defendant has denied and apologized for the accusations of rape, while the prosecutor of Kon. Kountrias in his apocalypse, argued that three of the four complainants in total were confirmed and their testimonies are considered true.

The fourth person who did not appear, although he was searched without result, according to the prosecutor, cannot be considered reliable and therefore proposed - for this specific case - the discharge of Lignadis.

With their verdict, the judges will answer if what they are complaining about to the former head of the National Theater is the truth or if, as he claims, he was the victim of a conspiracy that was set up against him "by a complex of groups and components of persons with convergent motives that they created "the rapist product" which was offered for political exploitation".

Dimitris Lignadis in his apology denied any act of violence charged against him in the case file, stressing that he never had a sexual relationship with a minor. The version that, from the first moment of the criminal proceedings, the actor maintains, is that the charge against him is fabricated.

According to the featured artist, this whole case, as he said apologizingly, started with "romantic bitterness", but along the way it became the means to damage his position as head of the National Theater and decisions he made as artistic director. According to the defendant, the men who denounced him lack any credibility.
At his trial, however, the prosecutor Kon. Kountrias, rejected the reasoning of the accused: "What the three victims complain about has been confirmed. It's true," he said. According to the prosecutor's proposal, Dimitris Lignadis should be declared guilty of the three rapes of minors, from 2011 and 2015 and acquitted for the fourth, in 2018, at the expense of an adult as the complainant did not appear in court, therefore, as he pointed out the prosecutor, questions of doubt are raised as to his credibility, a condition that works in favor of the accused.

The proceedings will begin at 8:00 in the morning, when the Court's conference is expected to begin. Later the Court will decide on the guilt or not and then on the penalty, recognition or non-mitigation with the whole process lasting hours.
