Two seismic tremors were recorded respectively in the early morning hours and last night in the sea area between Amorgos and Santorini, according to data published by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens.
At 01:08, an earthquake measuring 4,5 on the Richter scale was recorded 23 kilometers south-southwest of Arkesini, Amorgos, and yesterday, Sunday, at 22:55, a 4,2-magnitude earthquake 18 kilometers south-southwest of the same community, according to this source.
Both seismic tremors were characterized as "weak" by the Institute.
Between January 26 and Friday, February 14, more than 16.900 earthquakes of magnitude greater than one were recorded in the zone between Amorgos and Santorini, according to the Seismology Laboratory of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The source spoke yesterday Sunday of a “gradual decrease” in seismic activity in the area.
