The project "Ancient Olympia: Common Place" was inaugurated today, in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports and Microsoft, which digitally revives Ancient Olympia, through the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies.
The project was inaugurated today by the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
The project, through interactive applications on mobile, computer and the Olympic Museum of Athens, allows viewers to explore Ancient Olympia as it was 2.000 years ago.
In this context, the work digitally represents 27 monuments - including the Stadium, the temples of Zeus and Hera and the workshop of Pheidias - as they were in their original form, while giving the visitor the opportunity to navigate the sites of Ancient Olympia.
Inaugurating the project, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that it is a large project that proves that ancient civilization can meet technology to give the visitor "a completely different opportunity to really understand what was happening in this sacred place for so many centuries. before".
Referring to the cooperation of the Greek government, Mr. Mitsotakis said that this is "an emblematic project", which Microsoft "embraced". "My vision is similar experiences to be able to launch for all the important archeological sites", said Mr. Mitsotakis, adding that "the challenge is in front of us and I assure you that we will embrace it warmly".
