The biological father of 3-year-old Angelos, who tragically died after being brutally abused by his 26-year-old mother and her 44-year-old partner in Heraklion, Crete, was released on parole.
The young man, the father of the unfortunate Angelos who "passed away" last February after the brutal abuse he received, was taken to the investigating judge on Tuesday morning (29.04.2025) and after apologizing, was released with the restrictive conditions of the curfew.
The biological father is accused of causing bodily harm to Angelos as well as exposure of a minor.
He denies all the charges against him and two defense witnesses, his mother and a family friend, appeared in court today.
"The father denies the accusations made against him. He claims that he had seen the child two years before the tragic incident, so he was not with him to abuse him. The first year he saw him, he never hit him," his lawyer, Elisabeth Panagiotidou, pointed out, among other things.
The mother of 3-year-old Angelos, during her defense, had claimed that the child's biological father had beaten her and that she had left him and filed a complaint against him. However, as she stated, the biological father beat the child whenever he visited him, saying that there was photographic evidence.
With this information, the Heraklion investigator issued an arrest warrant for the biological father and he was called to testify.
"I haven't touched my child"
In statements to reporters, young Dimitris expressed his satisfaction and thanked his lawyers, while once again denying that he had ever hit Angelos.
"I was discharged normally, I told the truth, that I have never touched my child," he said characteristically, also emphasizing that he tried "many times to take the child" from the mother.
For her part, one of his defense attorneys, Elissavet Panagiotidou, stated, "A very detailed work has been done in the case file to ascertain the truth. Dimitris was involved in the case from another side, with other charges, but from the totality of the evidence - and we believe that this was assessed by both the Investigating Officer and the Prosecutor - there were no indications that could lead to the suspicion or the formation of the belief that Dimitris has committed these offenses."
