The Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, together with ARION, was immediately notified by the local Port Authority about the "resurgence" of the injured whale of the species "Zifios" in Salamina.

The Rescue Team of ARION Veterinarians, Biologists and volunteers responds and provides medical treatment to the mammal on the spot.

The leadership of the Ministry of National Defense-Navy actively assists in the operation with a group of divers from O.Y.K.

Speaking to ERT, Deputy Environment Minister George Amyras said that "yesterday Sotiris, as rescuers and volunteers called him, appeared to be responding to antibiotics while he underwent various blood tests to adjust his medication. It is a species of whale - a treasure for the Greek seas and a very important link in the biodiversity of the marine chain ".

As Mr. Amyras stated: "Yesterday he showed that Zifios was responding to the lawsuit and so we decided in cooperation with the Coast Guard to take him to the deep because he had started to gain good buoyancy all night as much as possible - because he also did diving - we were watching it. This morning the news is not so pleasant in the sense that it appears in the east of Salamis, so the fact that it returns to the shallows is not very encouraging. "We will send professional divers - because the animal is deeper - to give him medication again so that we can help him return as much as possible to his natural environment."

The Undersecretary of the Environment said he did not want to play with the odds, but noted that "unfortunately the prognosis is not very good because this animal lives in the depths and the fact that it stays so many hours in the shallows means that the animal is suffering, not he is well and in addition, the longer he stays in the shallows, the more his health deteriorates ".
