GREECE: "I started fires because I liked to see flames", says a 14-year-old arsonist

The mayor of Lokra, Mr. Thanasis Zekentes, spoke about the 14-year-old arsonist, who is allegedly responsible for 9 of the 13 fires that have recently entered the Theologos of Fthiotida.

As the mayor revealed, the 14-year-old after his arrest told the firefighters that he was setting fires because he liked to see the flames and the smoke.

It is noted that the 14-year-old was found to set fire from CCTV cameras using matches and is accused of fires that occurred from August 5 to August 17. As the mayor noted, the minor is being taken to the Lamia prosecutor's office, accused of the crime of participation for arson. The parents of the minor are also taken there, who are accused of the misdemeanor of the minor's negligence.

As the mayor underlined, the fires for which the 14-year-old is most likely responsible have created big problems in the area, people's property has been destroyed, while for days firefighters, volunteers and the army have been operating.

The family line of defense states that the child did not set the fires, as reported by the mayor of the area.
