The local community in Rethymno is shocked by the heinous crime that took place on Sunday afternoon in the tourist area of Panormos, with the victim being a 47-year-old woman.
The 49-year-old perpetrator who maintains a tavern in the area, shot the 47-year-old woman in the back, inside the store, fish spa, which she owned, and then tried to end her life.
He is currently being treated in critical condition at the Rethymnon Hospital.
The perpetrator is a father of three children and the victim is a mother of two children and according to information they were having an extramarital affair, about which the perpetrator's wife was informed a year ago.
Thus, their relationship ended, however, the victim had reported to the police that he was receiving threats from the man.
What the residents say
According to the residents of the area, the 47-year-old was a quiet woman, and she had never given a right to anyone in the area. Speaking to cretapost, businessmen operating in Panormo, were adamant about the possible perpetrator and victim having an affair, without specifying the reasons that armed the 49-year-old's hand. 
The chronicle of the murder
The tragic incident took place on Sunday afternoon.
The 49-year-old visited the business of the 47-year-old and shot her in the back with a shotgun. In fact, a tourist was injured in the hand by the shrapnel, according to the same source. The 49-year-old fled after his act.
Panic ensued with ambulances and patrol cars arriving at the scene.
The woman was taken to the hospital in Rethymno where the doctors simply confirmed her death.
The police knew the identity of the perpetrator from the first moment and launched a manhunt to locate and arrest him.
A little while later, his vehicle was located. He had turned his shotgun on himself when apprehended by a police officer on the porch of the house where the shootings took place.
He is being treated in a critical condition
The 49-year-old was located in a sheepfold by the police who were looking for him, seriously injured in the head. He was transported to the Rethymnon hospital in critical condition by an EAKB ambulance and was immediately admitted to the operating room.
According to the treating doctors, his condition is extremely critical and they are trying to stabilize him.
