There are now 20 confirmed cases of monkey pox in Greece.

According to the weekly epidemiological report of the National Public Health Organization (EODY), the incidents all concern men, aged 24 to 59 years. Of these, 11 (55%) reported traveling abroad during the incubation period of the disease.

In total, in Europe, until July 19, 2022, 10.604 cases of the disease had been recorded in 36 different countries.

Monkeypox is a viral infection first recognized in 1958. Since then, it has been occurring in tropical regions of West and Central Africa. It is transmitted through contact with wild animals and from human to human through close physical contact.
