It is a symbol for Athens and gave its name to an entire area of the city. But the Hilton of Athens is preparing to change its name in the context of a radical renovation. At the end of the upgrade process it will be renamed Conrad (the Hiltons founder's first name).

The change of page comes after the signing of an agreement for the new hotel and the private residences that will be created in the center of Athens, which was announced by Hilton and Ioniki Hotel SA.

With this agreement, the luxury brands of Hilton Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Residences and Waldorf Astoria Residences will have a presence in Greece and will operate within the new destination developed by the Ionian Hotel.

The emblematic building of Athens, which currently operates as Hilton Athens, is to be transformed into an innovative and multidimensional destination that will offer high quality hospitality, housing and multiple experiences to Greek and foreign visitors, as emphasized in a relevant announcement.

The new destination is a strategic investment of over 130 million euros from the Ionian Hotel, in addition to the initial investment of about 145 million euros for the acquisition of the building. It aspires to introduce in the capital an innovative development model of mixed use and to be a reference point for its residents, but also for visitors.

It will include -in addition to the hotel- private residences, private club members, multiple restaurants and themed shopping areas, offering unique experiences through leisure and wellness activities, with the aim of further contributing to the establishment of Athens among the top choices in Europe for travel or even for permanent residence.

Simon Vincent, Executive Vice President & President, Hilton EMEA, stated that "for more than half a century Hilton Athens has played a key role in making the city a leading international tourist destination, offering unforgettable experiences to visitors from all over the world, members of the Royal families and representatives of the business world.

We are very proud to preserve and continue this historic heritage with the brands Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria as well as the Conrad branded residences. Hilton luxury brands are following a strong growth trajectory, with new units in Sardinia, Kuwait, Tulum, Rabat, Shanghai and Los Angeles within the coming year.

With modern and luxurious interiors, a huge range of services provided and stunning views of the Acropolis, our new presence in Athens is going to be a unique addition to the Group's development portfolio ".

"Our goal is to create an innovative city destination that will dynamically connect Athens and its inhabitants with the rest of the world. "It is a great honor and pleasure for us to expand our strategic partnership with Hilton and we are confident that the legacy of Hilton Athens together with Hilton's international know-how will contribute significantly to the further development of the capital," Achilles said of the agreement. V. Konstantakopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Ionian Hotel SA, adding that "after six decades of Hilton presence in Greece and cooperation with the group founded by Conrad Hilton, we are excited that we can now call it by its first name: Conrad ».

The agreement further strengthens the long-term and close cooperation between Hilton and Ionian Hotel SA and is an important milestone in the long-term presence of Hilton in Greece, as emphasized. Hilton Athens first opened its doors in 1963 as the first international chain hotel in the country and since then has contributed significantly to the emergence of Athens as a top tourist destination.
