The announcements started with the Security Director Petros Tzeferis, who pointed out the method of the police, who, as he said, built a relationship of trust with the victim's husband.
Then, the director of the forensic laboratories of ELAS Penelope Miniati referred to the research done by the laboratories: For the fingerprints, the DNA, and even to create a sketch based on the descriptions of Babis Anagnostopoulos. Extremely crucial, said Ms. Miniati, was the investigation from the digital analysis of the data which revealed significant discrepancies with Anagnostopoulos' testimony.
Then the head of the Homicide Department, Mr. Hasiotis, referred to the history of the case. The first critical data came from the toxicology laboratories of the University of Athens, which showed that the cause of death was suffocation. It was found tied to a pole, there were marks on the hands and feet of the husband from the shackles he was tied, but they were barely visible and this created gaps for the time he said he was tied. The premises had been searched, we found that a window in the basement had been breached and the perpetrators described by the 32-year-old may have entered from there.
It was also unusual for the dog to be found hanged. Items such as the security camera, the victim's smartwatch and the husband's phone were taken to the laboratories. We could not detect the presence of other persons inside the house. Examination of the digital evidence showed us signs of movement of objects, especially the husband's cell phone, at the time he had told us he was tied up. He showed us a possible involvement of the husband. We examined him meticulously.
During the initial discussion with him, he brought the discussion to the relationship he had with the victim, with his child, but also to the leader of the team that had taken over the case. He told us that he did not want to cheat, but to stay out of jail to stay with his child.
He told us that it all happened on a shock he had with his wife. He confessed to telling us that he killed her, and what he did next: He broke the window, disturbed the space, killed the dog, called the police and was tied up.
