Greece was second only to Spain in July in terms of the volume of British tourists it attracted, according to figures from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) cited by The Times.
Specifically, during the previous month, 1,33 million visitors from the United Kingdom traveled to our country, surpassing Italy, but also France.
Almost 980.000 tourists traveled to Italy and almost 810.000 to France (but not including visitors who chose to travel to the country by road or train).
Just over 3,5 million travelers traveled to Spain, traditionally the top tourist destination for the British, in July.
Greece was the country with the smallest decrease in air passenger flows from the United Kingdom compared to 2019, i.e. before the pandemic hit.
According to the Times, Greece won over the British because of its successful handling of the pandemic and its desire to protect the tourism industry.
The director of the EOT office in London, Eleni Skarveli, told the newspaper that "confidence in the country contributed to the increase in arrivals".
