Italy: "Strong cooperation and friendship between Greece and Italy"

In an official statement, the Italian Ministry of Defense refers to the meeting that Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozeto had with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis yesterday in Athens.

As underlined in the announcement, after the meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Crozeto, among others, said: "Greece and Italy are linked by a solid friendship and strong cooperation, with joint action both in NATO and in the EU. In today's geopolitical context, it is important to further strengthen our relations, in order to favor stability and security in the wider Mediterranean region and, consequently, the entire European continent".

The Italian Ministry of Defense adds that the main topics discussed in the meeting with the Greek Prime Minister were the strengthening of the southern wing of the Atlantic Alliance, developments at the international level and the common will for further development of bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, as noted, "during the long and cordial conversation, the central role of the Mediterranean region was confirmed", in which Italy considers that "with respect to international law, national interests must be guaranteed and dialogue should be favored, to reducing tensions in the region".

Finally, in the announcement of the Italian Ministry of Defense, it is underlined that in the meeting of Guido Crosetto with the Minister of Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos "the two ministers confirmed their common understanding of the challenges concerning security" while "their conversation was an opportunity to deepening and the issue of cooperation in the defense industrial sector".
