Landslides in areas of Santorini, due to intense seismic activity, were recorded in the last few hours, while a message was sent from 112 a little earlier about the risk of landslides in other areas of the island.
The first informed the residents of Santorini of the risk of landslides, emphasizing that access to the areas of Ammoudi, Armeni and the Old Port of Fira on Thira is prohibited, while the second warned of prolonged seismic activity in the wider area of Ios, Amorgos, Thira and Anafi, calling on citizens to remain on alert.
Meanwhile, the joint meeting of the Seismic Hazard Assessment and Monitoring Committees of the Hellenic Volcanic Arc of the OASP is underway, regarding the increased seismic activity in the sea area between Santorini and Amorgos. The meeting is being held in the presence of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias.
Earlier, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made relevant statements from Brussels, speaking of a particularly intense phenomenon and calling on the island's residents to remain calm. "We have to manage a very intense geological phenomenon. I want to ask our islanders first and foremost to remain calm, to listen to the instructions of the Civil Protection and I have also asked the competent Ministry within the next few days to make a comprehensive presentation, a scientific presentation of the geological data, so that everyone knows what the phenomenon is that we have to manage," he stressed.
