The Court of Appeals announces its crucial decision on the issue of suspending the sentences it imposed on the 10 defendants whom it found guilty of the deadly fire in Mati.
Earlier in the hearing, the sentences for the 10 defendants were announced. Specifically, total prison sentences of up to 240 years were imposed. Of these, however, 5 years are extenuating.
More specifically, Konstantinos Angelopoulos, from whose yard the fire started, was sentenced to 3 years.
The total prison sentence for S. Terzoudis, V. Matthaiopoulos, I. Fostieri and I. Kapakis before the merger is 240 years (extendable to 5 years).
Furthermore, for Chr. Golfinos, Filippos, Panteleakos, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Damianos Papadopoulos and Charalambos Chionis, the sentence before the merger reaches 138 years.
The Prosecutor's proposal
The prosecutor of the Court of Appeals, St. Perimeni, recently made a proposal that the defendants S. Terzoudis, Vasilis Matthaiopoulos, Ioannis Fostieris and I. Kapakis serve the sentences imposed on them for the case of the deadly fire in Mati.
On the contrary, the prosecutor requested that the sentences imposed on the remaining defendants be converted into fines.
The court will make its final decision within the day.
