Metoo: The trial for the movement in Greece has started - Sofia Bekatorou among the witnesses

The first trial is taking place today in the Mixed Jury Court of Athens in the context of the complaints about the Greek #metoo, more than a year after the shocking revelations of Sofia Bekatorou, who will give her "present" in court as she is a witness in the case with a former sailing coach accused of raping a minor athlete.

Relatives and friends of the young athlete have called for a rally outside the Athens Court of First Instance.

The coach, who has been temporarily detained in Tripoli prison since January 24, 2021, is on trial for the crimes of continuous rape, continuous seduction and the abuse of a minor under the age of twelve, with the same claims that the minor consented to the sexual acts and was older than 12 years.

The young athlete made the decision to speak at the beginning of January 2021, when the tangle of allegations of sexual abuse in sports had begun to unfold. The power of Sofia Bekatorou's soul gave her the power to report to the prosecutor what happened to her.

"There was no consensus on my part. "He threatened to kill me and destroy my family if I talked and revealed what he did to me." she had said in her testimony.

When she was a minor, in 2013 she had found the courage to talk to her parents about what she had suffered from her coach. They had informed the Nautical Club, where he worked and had informed the relevant police department, but in the end no lawsuit was filed.

For his part, the former coach claims that he did not rape the minor athlete and that with her consent they had sexual intercourse shortly before the girl turned 13: "in the summer of 2012 we ended our relationship and we were a couple talking about marriage . Her father did not understand and did not know anything about the love affair and from what she told me I am not sure if her mother knew what stage our relationship had reached, all I know is that they left her and went out together "I did not, as a coach, this was done in the afternoon until nine in the evening."
