Tourism in Greece is heading for a record for this season. The President of Hoteliers of Greece, Grigorios Tassios, was hosted at Protoselidos, who spoke about this summer's tourist flows.
He initially mentioned that after two years of pandemic, there was concern about how tourism will move, while the war in Ukraine also arose. "After May we see high occupancy everywhere, about 80% in almost all destinations." He added that there are reservations until October.
Regarding nationalities, he said that England is the first country in arrivals after Germany. "Next is France and tourists from the Balkans and especially from Romania," he said.
He noted that for the first time in 40-50 years so many arrivals from America are recorded. "We have seven flights a week to Athens. It has given a great impetus to Attica, the Cyclades, Crete and Thessaloniki". He added that about 2000 people come a week.
He pointed out that a good income of customers is recorded, while the presence of famous people helps to promote the tourism product. "The presence and advertising that Giannis Antetokounmpo does helps, but also the filming of movies in various parts of Greece."
Mr. Tasios clarified that tourism is close to 2019. "In that year, 18 billion revenues were recorded. We may exceed that amount."
He added that 2019 million arrivals were recorded in 30, while there is also a 30% increase in operating costs. He also talked about the prices, stressing that there is an increase of 5%-10%.
