The loss of Alexis Kougias dominated the courtroom where the case of Roula Pispirigou is being heard for the deaths of Malena and Iris, her two youngest daughters, and today, Wednesday (5.3.25), the district attorney began her argument on the guilt or innocence of the defendant.
Starting off, the president of the court, on behalf of the bench, expressed her condolences for the loss of Alexis Kougias, with Roula Pispirigou responding that "life plays the most tragic and ugly games."
The accused then said what the last phone call she spoke about was like and explained "I was no longer a principal. I was something else for him. We had developed a relationship...not friendly, something more. He was like my protector."
Roula Pispirigou said that as soon as Alexis Kougias took over her case and read the case file, he told her "I will fight because you are innocent."
"For me, this was... hearing it from the lips of Kougias, who we all know what Kougias was, over 1.000 murders. In the last phone call after the apology, the last goodnight he said to me was the day I finished my apology. I didn't hear from him again.... He is here and will always be present and he listens to everything. He will never leave the courtroom. The first hug he went to was with his parents and the second with my children. He will fight from there for justice. Thank you very much, Mr. Kougias," the accused emphasized and returned to her seat with sobs.
For her part, the prosecutor, Vasiliki Dimopoulou, described the late criminologist as "a strong personality and successful in all aspects of his life" and began her speech by speaking about a case in which "the court had to delve into difficult medical issues for which they themselves often could not answer, and the answers surprised us."
