A gathering of the GSEE as well as other federations, labor centers and workers' unions is underway in Syntagma Square in the context of today's 24-hour general strike that has been declared for the train accident in Tempi.
"Listen to the voices" is the central slogan of the GSEE, which in a statement asks, among other things, that responsibilities be assigned, measures be taken, the causes of the tragedy be investigated in depth as well as modern, safe and cheap public transportation.
"For the workers of the whole country, the in-depth investigation and the assignment of responsibilities, as well as the taking of measures so that we do not mourn human lives again, is a central demand of society and is at the heart of our strike mobilization. We will not allow opacity, cover-up, shifting of responsibilities and any delays to lead to oblivion. We demand that the causes of the accident be fully investigated and those responsible be revealed. We will not allow party and electoral expediencies to become the cause of easy attributions and exchange of accusations", the GSEE points out, among other things, in a statement.
At the same time, ADEDY and other labor unions are holding a rally in Klathmonos Square, while organizations of the Left and collectives of the anti-authoritarian space have also addressed a call for the strike. Those gathered will go to the Parliament.
In addition, a mass strike gathering in Propylaia is being held by PAME as well as a number of labor centers, Federations, unions, mass organizations, student associations and students. With a central slogan "You count profits and losses, we count human lives" the demonstrators are heading towards the Parliament and will march to the offices of Hellenic Train.
At this time, traffic has been stopped on the streets around the center of Athens.
