The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has decided that the municipality of Thira should be placed in a state of emergency due to the continuous earthquakes recorded between Santorini and Amorgos.
In detail, the decision states that it was decided to declare a state of emergency in the Municipality of Thira, to address the emergency needs and manage the consequences resulting from the seismic activity.
The same decision states that its proclamation begins on February 1 and will last for one month.
Specifically, the decision states:
"We decide to declare a State of Emergency for Civil Protection in the Municipality of Thira, in the Regional Unit of Thira, in the South Aegean Region, to address the emergency needs and manage the consequences resulting from the seismic activity that has been occurring recently in the above area. This declaration will be in effect from February 1st and will last for one month, i.e. until March 1st."

The Prime Minister and the Minister of Civil Protection will be in Santorini tomorrow
At the moment when the Municipality of Thira was placed in a state of emergency, information indicates that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to travel to Santorini tomorrow, Friday (7/02), along with the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias.
The Prime Minister will travel to Santorini to be informed by those responsible about the seismic activities that have "shaken" the island.
At the same time, the South Aegean Fire Department remains on general alert and the 8 EMAKs in the territory are on increased alert due to the seismic activity between Santorini and Amorgos.
It is recalled that a total of 67 firefighters have been mobilized in Santorini, Amorgos, Ios, Astypalaia, Anafi and Naxos.
Specifically, 51 firefighters and 9 vehicles are in Santorini including: The "OLYMPOS" Mobile Operations Center, a team from the 1st EMAK with a rescue dog, a team from the 1st EMODE and the S.mi.EA. Team with 2 drones from the PE.PY.D. Attica.
A Fire Department helicopter with aerial rescuers is also on standby.
