In an extremely critical condition, the abbot Ephraim is hospitalized for the eleventh day with a coronavirus in the Annunciation, with his health being already burdened, as he suffers from underlying diseases (diabetes, heart disease).

The 64-year-old clergyman was intubated on Friday, while according to his treating doctors, he does not respond to the medication, with the fever remaining at very high levels between 39-40.

The fathers of the Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos are in an open line with the doctors of the hospital, while, from the first moment, the Political Commander of Mount Athos, Mr. Athanasios Martinos, is by his side. The Ecumenical Patriarchate and personally the Ecumenical Patriarch Mr. Bartholomew are in constant communication with the monks in Vatopedi, under whose spiritual jurisdiction Mount Athos belongs.

Yesterday, the Archbishop of America Elpidoforos telephoned the Fathers of the Monastery, who had a meeting, and spoke to everyone in an open hearing. He strengthened them with his words, comforted them and assured them that both the abbot and all the fathers are in his prayer. The fathers thanked him for his support and expressed the hope that the abbot will soon return safe to the Vatopedi Monastery.
